Who Says Fayetteville’s Not Funky?

by Terri Chadick on January 15, 2010

Regardless of where you stand on that issue, it is undisputed that Fayetteville’s funkiness factor has increased with the addition of Opal Fly’s Feel Good Lounge.

This is an alcohol free lounge where you can listen to music, play a board game, take a yoga class, get a massage, drink an excellent smoothie, coffee or tea, and grab a bite for lunch.

Why are you posting about this on Life+Kids? I’m glad you asked.

The Lounge is offering Family Days on Sunday January 17 and 24 from 1-11pm. Here’s the schedule:

  • 1-3pm playtime and social hours
  • 3-4pm movement and music class
  • 4-5pm Zam the Illusionist
  • 5-6pm Not for Kids Only music with Flygirl and Friends
  • 7-11 Avant Garde Music Showplace with Strange Heros and the Gypsy Jazz Grass All-Stars

The cost is $5 for adults.  Kids 12 and under free.

The Lounge is located at 40 East Center Street, just off the Fayetteville Square, across from Damgoode Pies and Taste of Thai.  From College Ave., go West on Center Street (your only option or you would run into the Old Courthouse) and Opal Fly’s Feel Good Lounge is the first building on your right.

Being from Austin, I love most things funky. That being said, we actually attempted to go to “Family Day” at Opal Fly’s and I can tell you we will not be returning. It was like walking into a hippie’s dirty apartment, complete with burning incense. In my opinion, totally inappropriate for kids. Perfect for college kids and Fayetteville’s funkier crowd, or anyone else without regard for personal hygiene.
