My kids and husband are looking forward to MacHomer more than any other Walton Arts Center show this year. I am not sure what that says about my family, but it’s true. If anyone in your family is a Simpsons fan, check out this video then get your tickets to the show immediately (best for ages 8 and up).
The Simpsons meet Shakespeare in MacHomer, a hilarious one-man performance coming to Walton Arts Center’s Starr Theatre May 29 through May 31! Performance times are Friday, May 29 at 8 pm; Saturday, May 30 at 2 pm and 8 pm, and Sunday, May 31 at 2 pm. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Walton Arts Center Box Office at 479-443-5600 or by visiting www.waltonartscenter.org.

Conceived as a Macbeth cast party sketch in 1994, Rick Miller’s MacHomer has since evolved into a worldwide smash hit. True to the Fox television program it parodies, MacHomer includes numerous allusions to and quotations from other popular culture artifacts and celebrities. Some of the MacHomer characters include: Mr. Burns as King of Scotland, Smithers as Malcolm, Principal Skinner as the witches, Crusty the Clown as the Porter, Homer Simpson as MacBeth, Ned Flanders as Banquo, Bart Simpson as Fleance, and Lisa Simpson as a Gentlewoman.
The play begins with three witches plotting the corruption of MacHomer, a Thane of Scotland off at war in Norway. The Thane of Ross then returns to Scotland to inform King Duncan of Scotland’s victory. On their return journey, a battle-weary MacHomer and Banquo run into the three witches who declare that MacHomer will soon become King, and that the royal line will be continued by Banquo’s children.
Miller describes MacHomer as “…pure parody, yet an attempt to really tell the story of MacBeth. The result is a collision between these two intentions. It makes for an interesting hour, to say the least.” He has performed MacHomer to capacity crowds across the U.S. and Canada and also around the world in Scotland, England, Australia, and New Zealand.
In its various incarnations, this virtuosic solo performance has been seen by over half a million people on four continents, and continues to draw sell-out crowds and rave reviews.
Don’t miss this laugh-out-loud (“Is this a dagger I see before me…or a pizza? D’oh!”) comedy. MacHomer is aimed at anyone age 8 and beyond and is both educational and entertaining, making it perfect for the whole family.
