I Need Your Help!

January 6, 2008

If you're new here, sign up for your free daily email about all things kid related in Northwest Arkansas. Click here to subscribe to Life+Kids by Email. Thanks for visiting!

I am working on the SHOPPING FOR KIDS category of the Life+Kids Guide to Kid Friendly NWA, and would love your input on stores that should be included in the directory.

The criteria for inclusion is simple — would you recommend the store to a friend?  I plan to include stores of all price ranges, bargain and luxe, local and chain — and am especially looking for “hidden gems.”

Here is my initial brainstorm of stores (in no particular order).  Where do you shop?  Who have I missed?  What other kid related shopping categories should be added?

For Outdoors: can’t have a complete list that doesn’t include Pack Rat Outdoor Center and McLellan’s Fly Shop (both on Sunbridge in Fayetteville).

You are so right! I have learned the joys of hiking since having kids. Exposing our boys to nature has been tons of fun. I have been to Pack Rat and certainly would recommend it. I haven’t been to McLellan’s Fly shop, but I think fishing is an excellent hobby to share with your child.

[...] of kid related stores in Northwest Arkansas  Here are the suggestions so far (in addition to the recommended stores in my initial post).  What else is missing?  I have boys, so I don’t know where to buy dance and gymnastics [...]

Hi Terry, I don’t suppose you could count BigWag as a true children’s store, since there is absolutely nothing in our store for kids, however I thought I might mention it, because one of the most facinating times for me is to watch children pick out what treats they think “Spot” will like. Watching children enjoy our store was a real surprise for me. I would have never guessed that kids would enjoy picking out treats for their dogs that much, and so inquisitive - they really want to pamper their puppies.

Now, if you consider your dog your “other kid”, we’re definately the place to be. We’re locally owned, online and brick. Check out our website at http://www.bigwag.com or come by the bakery and let your nose do the walking!

Hi Terri! I would love to be included on your website! I don’t have a physical store, but represent Barefoot Books for children with sales through my website or by contacting me directly. Barefoot Books is an independent publisher whose books promote both art and diversity.

Our Mission: At Barefoot Books, we celebrate art and story that opens the hearts and minds of children from all walks of life, inspiring them to read deeper, search further, and explore their own creative gifts. Taking our inspiration from many different cultures, we focus on themes that encourage independence of spirit, enthusiasm for learning, and sharing of the world’s diversity. Interactive, playful and beautiful, our products combine the best of the present with the best of the past to educate our children as the caretakers of tomorrow.

    Thanks for the consideration!

p.s. Now is a great time to check out my website - we’re in the middle of a big winter sale!
