My 3rd grader will be attending Camp Mitchell for the 3rd year in a row. He loves it! This children’s camp has a rich history, dating back to the 1930′s.
Located at the top of beautiful Petit Jean Mountain in Morrilton, Arkansas, Camp Mitchell is the site of five summer camp sessions hosted by the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas. The camp is open to all children and is attended by many from Northwest Arkansas.
Each camp begins on Sunday afternoon, ends on Friday afternoon and includes both planned activities and “free choice” time including swimming, water slide, sports, arts and crafts.
Here’s a quote from a Camper:
We hung out with friends, listened to music, played soccer, extreme frizbee and basketball, listened to the coyotes howl at night, hiked out to Stout’s Point overlook and Petit Jean’s gravesite, laughed while the Assistant Director tried to herd a black snake into a trash can, had a cookout, trekked out to the stone altar for a candlelight service and bonfire, ate some awesome food, tormented the counselors, got tormented back, sang some more camp songs (“Pharoh, Pharoh” is still the fave), had a talent show, went fishing, made some new friends, tried to skip out on cabin clean-up (got busted) and somehow found time to sleep…
Here’s the 2009 Schedule:
June 7th-12th Sr. High (completed grades 9th-12th)
June 21st-26th Primary (completed grades 1st-3rd)
June 28th-July 3rd Middler I (completed grades 3rd-5th)
July 5th-10th Jr High (completed grades 6th-9th)
July 12th-17th Middler II (completed grades 3rd-5th)
If you are looking for a summer camp reminiscent to the camps of your youth, Camp Mitchell is the perfect choice.
