From the Summer Camp Guide: Arkansas Youth Adventures

by Terri Chadick on May 13, 2009

Arkansas Youth Adventures is a brand new summer camp for 11-16 year olds nestled in the hills around NWA’s War Eagle River Valley. If your child is an adventurer who loves canoeing, hiking and exploring the great outdoors, this is the camp for them. Take a look at this year’s offerings:

  • 7 day 6 night trek An overnight canoe trip on the Buffalo River with stream ecology and riverside hikes, a multi-day backpacking trip on the Ozark Highlands Trail, a day of real outdoor rock climbing instruction and basics, and a venture into the depths of a local area cave in Madison County – all of culminating in an exciting final day adventure race.
  • 6 day 5 night trek Following a day of basic canoe flat water skills training and spelunking into a local cave, campers make their way to the crystal clear and slower moving Kings River for a day of floating and swimming with some hands on environmental science lessons thrown in. An introduction to rock climbing takes place in an area climbing facility. An overnight backpacking trip on the Ozark Highlands Trail is also on the agenda, followed at last, by a skills testing team adventure race.
  • 3 day 2 night trek This trip was designed for the most fun that can be packed into a three day trip and get campers acquainted with our trips. This trek will consist of backpacking the Buffalo River Trail for two days and finishing up with a refreshing float on the Buffalo National River. During this trek campers will gain valuable knowledge pertaining to backcountry ethics, backcountry cooking, environmental science, stewardship, and leadership.

My son had such a great time at Arkansas Youth Adventures camp. Justin, Matt, Jonathan and Jesse were great and took great care of all the boys. Liam really enjoyed the food and the time spent outside, getting to know other boys as well as being mentored by 4 excellent role models. I highly recommend this camp to everyone.
