Fun for the whole family this fall @ the Massey with the new Naturescape Series! Crystal Bridges @ the Massey Family Days feature hands-on activities designed to spark interest, encourage creativity, and introduce children and adults to the special exhibition, Thoreau’s Walden: A Journey in Photographs by Scot Miller. It’s time to explore nature – its beauty, our experiences in the natural landscape, and the need to preserve and care for it.
Family Days activities are designed for children ages 5 – 12 and their adult partners. This is a free drop-in program for families and adult supervision is required.
- September 29, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm (Saturday) — A Nature Journal is a place for you to record your observations and thoughts on the landscape around you – learn to create and keep one during this program.
- October 20, 2:00 – 2:30 the Massey and 2:45 – 3:30 pm at Compton Garden (Saturday) – Fall Color Walk at Compton Gardens. Meet @ the Massey at 2:00 for a family friendly gallery tour of Thoreau’s Walden. By 2:45, make your way to Compton Gardens (312 N. Main Street, Bentonville) for a “Fall Color Walk.” During this 45-minute Color Walk, participants will learn about tree identification and why leaves change colors.
- October 21, 2:00-4:00 pm (Sunday) – Plein Air Painting Days. Join us for fun in the sun! We’ll meet at the Massey to see the beautiful photographs on exhibit, then walk to Compton Gardens to discover the art of painting “en plein air” (in the open air). Members of the Plein Air Painters of the Ozarks will be on hand to introduce children to watercolor painting out-of-doors. NOTE: moved under coverage during inclement weather.
