After my post about Elf on a Shelf, I was privileged to correspond with Piper Worthington, Head Elf at Elf Magic where hundreds of cuddly elves have been creating special Christmas memories for families for twenty years.
Through our correspondence I learned a lot about the Elf Magic tradition – and have become more than a little elf obsessed myself!
If you’re trying to decide between an Elf on a Shelf and an Elf Magic elf, here are the differences in the two traditions.
- Elf Magic elves have always been the mischievous ones and go on “Elfcapades” at night. That is not part of the “official” Elf on a Shelf tradition.
- The Elf on a Shelf returns to the North Pole each night to report to Santa about a child. The Elf Magic elf does not do this. Rather, the elf would simply leave the child a note reminding the child they needed to work harder on sharing toys or cleaning up their room, etc.
- Elf Magic elves arrive already named by Santa, while the child is asked to name the Elf on a Shelf.
- Elf Magic elves are made to be held and touched by children, while children are told not to touch the Elf on a Shelf.
- You cannot buy an Elf Magic elf. Instead, you receive one by going to www.elf-magic.com and paying for the elf’s travel ticket from the North Pole
