This just looks wonderful! I am especially excited about the Night Circus scheduled in June.
Come join a merry band of local artists, architecture and landscape architecture students in creating a magical, site-specific shelter for seasonal celebrations at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks. The group will weave an enormous performance space that will set the stage for theatrical and musical events later in the year. Teens and adults may participate in building the structure. Younger visitors may help weave bamboo stars and
craft colorful stars to take home.
Mark your calendar now for Sunday evening, June 22, when Greenweave and the
Botanical Gardens of the Ozarks will host the Night Circus. Come celebrate summer with artists and musicians, buskers and jugglers, sword swallowers and storytellers. Greenweave is a year-long community art celebration supported by the Nadine Baum Charitable Foundation.
What: Greenweave Community Art Project
When: 1:00 p.m. Sunday, April 13
Where: Botanical Garden of the Ozarks, 4703 N. Crossover Rd, Fayetteville

Kite Fest at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge
March 8, 2008 | 1 Comment
Kite Fest is a free family event held each year at the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge near Eureka Springs on the fourth Saturday in March. Bring your kite and fly it or buy one there. This event includes vendors, contests, and fun activities.
The 2008 Kite Fest will be held on Saturday, March 22, 10 AM - 4 PM with a theme or “Art With An Altitude.” While admission to the kite festival is free, regular admission prices apply for those wishing to tour the refuge. The annual event is one of the refuge’s most attended days of the year. Proceeds help finance the rescue of and sanctuary for the tigers, lions, cougars, leopards and other animals housed there.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own kites. Kaleidokites’ experts will assist children in kite making and flying. A donation to the refuge is requested for kite making assistance. Kaleidokites has donated and Turpentine Creek will raffle off a Japanese fighting “Rokkaku” kite and a smaller tiger kite, with proceeds going to benefit the animals.
“Kite-making is a ‘green’ sport. It gets kids away from the TV and video games and it’s wind-fueled,” explained Kaleidokites co-owner Steve Rogers. He added, “It’s a great photo-op event, too. These aren’t just your mega-store mass-produced kites. These are works of art!”
Kite aficionados are expected to attend from the Kansas City Kite Club, Tulsa Wind Riders and other area clubs. Several world-class kites worth over a thousand dollars apiece will be featured.
For more information contact Kaleidokites at 479.253.6596 or kaleidokites@hotmail.com.

Kindergarten Registration for Fayetteville Public Schools
February 20, 2008 | 1 Comment
Thank goodness for my sister in law. Otherwise, I would have never known that I was supposed to register my son for kindergarten five months before kindergarten started! If you have a child who will be starting kindergarten in the Fayetteville Public Schools this fall, here is what you need to know:
- Kindergarten registration for the Fayetteville Public Schools is Thursday, April 3, 2008 from 8:00a.m. to 6:00p.m.
- You will register at your school zone’s elementary school. If you do not know your school zone, check the online zone map here.
- To register, you will need: (1) proof of address (such as a utility bill — not a phone bill); (2) your child’s immunization record; and (3) your child’s social security card or proof of birthday.
- Your child will also need a physical to begin kindergarten, but that can be completed up to 30 days before school starts.
- You can still register your child after kindergarten registration day. However, some school’s kindergarten classes fill up that day, so it is best to register on registration day.
If you wish to enroll your child at one of the approved open enrollment schools, you must still enroll at your home school, and then complete a transfer request.
If you have questions, call your elementary school. You can find the phone numbers here.
More Noodle Doodle Box Fundraiser Information

Here’s a message from my friend, Kassie, who is directing Noodle Doodle Box, TheatreSquared’s upcoming show for young audiences:
We’ve been having a blast in rehearsals! It will still be the intimate 150 seat experience that we had in Jungalbook and Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse. There will be carpet squares on the floor for the kids who want to be up close to the action and a post-play discussion and autograph signing with the actors.
I’m also really excited about our lobby! We’re joining creative forces with an amazing woman from the NWA Children’s Museum - Exhibits Committee. She’s working with us to create an interactive lobby experience where young people and families can physically explore themes and show related projects both before and after the show.
With the interactive lobby, the high quality professional production, the youth and family workshops surrounding the performance and the Family Performance Guide in the program (including show research and “car-ride home” discussion questions) - We are creating Theatre for Young Audiences the way I always imagined it could be!.
I hope you will get a chance to bring the kids, spouses, grandparents and neighbors to the show. If you can make it to the show March 1, come to the 4:30pm Family Fundraiser and support TheatreSquared’s education programs. See information below.
TheatreSquared, NWA’s professional theater for both adult and young audiences, invites you to the Noodle Doodle Box Family Fundraiser!
This Carnival/Dinner/Play event is happening Saturday, March 1 at Walton Art Center’s Nadine Baum Studios. At 4:30pm, the Studios will be turned into a carnival atmosphere with cames, crafts and food. Families can enjoy the festivites, have dinner, and meet other families. Then, from 6-7pm, everyone sees an exclusive Noodle Doodle Box performance. Afterwards, families will meet the cast and take a backstage tour. It is a small theater (150 max.) so tickets to the event are limited.
The cost for the event is $25 per person, and includes dinner and tickets to the show. Everything over the ticket cost ($13 a ticket) is tax deductible as a donation to TheatreSquared.
If the entire family can’t make it, don’t worry — it will be a perfect night out with mom or dad for the kids who can be there. It will also be great fun for grandparents and grandkids.
To buy tickets, call TheatreSquared box office at: 479-445-6333
Noodle Doodle Box Opens

I am thrilled about TheatreSquared’s upcoming production, Noodle Doodle Box. This show is the perfect way to introduce very young children to theater — it is geared for ages 3 through 8, but older/younger siblings and parents will enjoy the show as well.
Young & old alike will love the vivid & very physical Noodle Doodle Box, the hysterical adventure of two brilliantly drawn characters, Pepper & Zacharias. Each lives in his own brightly colored box & refuses to compromise or share. The play beautifully combines physical comedy, silliness & heart to entertain – even as it teaches a lesson about friendship overcoming selfish & competitive impulses. You won’t want your children to miss this delightful & delightfully important play!’
You will be able to order tickets online soon. I just wanted to be sure the production is on your calendars.
SHOW DATES & TIMES:
- SUNDAY March 2 and 9 at 2pm
- TUESDAY March 4 at 9:30am and 11:30am
- WEDNESDAY March 5 at 9:30am and 11:30am
- THURSDAY Mar. 6 at 9:30am & 11:30am
- FRIDAY Feb. 29 and Mar. 7 at 6pm
- SATURDAY Mar. 1 and 8 2pm and 6pm
You will not find a more kid friendly theater experience!
Noodle Doodle Box Family Fundraiser
February 11, 2008 | 1 Comment
As many of you know, I am on the board of directors of TheatreSquared, Northwest Arkansas’ only professional theatre company. I believe in the organization and what it brings to Northwest Arkansas, especially its quality theater for children.
In connection with TheatreSquared’s upcoming show, Noodle Doodle Box, we are hosting a family fundraiser at the Nadine Baum Studios in Fayetteville. Some of you may remember a similar event for TheatreSquared’s JungalBook production. That night was tons of fun, and this event will be, too.
Here’s how it works — before the 6pm Noodle Doodle Box performance on March 1, 2008 the lobby and other areas of Nadine Baum Studios will be turned into a carnival atmosphere with games and crafts and food. Families can enjoy the festivities, have dinner, and meet other families. Then, everyone goes in to see the 6pm Noodle Doodle Box performance.
The cost for the event is $25 per person, and includes dinner and tickets to the show. Everything over the ticket cost is tax deductible as a donation to TheatreSquared.
If the entire family can’t make it, don’t worry — it will be a perfect night out with mom or dad for the kids who can be there. It will also be great fun for grandparents and grandkids.
If you are interested in attending the event or have any questions, please email me at terri@lifepluskids.com. If you know of others who may be interested in attending, please forward this information to them. The theatre is small (which makes it even better for kids) so reserve your place at the fundraiser soon!
One last thing — if you are affiliated with any playgroups, preschools, church groups, etc. who would like to take a group to see Noodle Doodle Box, email me and I will get you in touch with the right person to reserve your seats.
