The Northwest Arkansas Community Creative Center offers clay classes for both adults and kids (as well as open clay studio hours) at the Nadine Baum Studios in Fayetteville.
The Center is offering clay and art classes for kids during Spring Break (ages 6 and up). The classes last four days (March 17-20, 2008) and cost $95. Here’s the schedule:
Wheel Class (54″ tall, ages 10+) 9:30am-noon
Students will spend the entire week working on the wheel with some hand building to add handles and decoration. Final pieces will be trimmed and decorated with an assortment of colorful under-glazes. NWACCC will fire and put on the final clear glaze—this process will take about 3 weeks before pieces can be picked up.
Hand Building Class (ages 8-12) 1:30-4pm
Children will learn about many of our fellow amphibians, their sizes, colors and habitat. Then the fun really begins when they create their own “friends.” Students will also get a chance to try out the wheel.
Bugs in a Box (ages 6-8) 9:30am-noon; (ages 9-10) 1:30-4pm
Kids will elaborately decorate a special box for their bugs to leap out at you when opened. What will their bugs be like? Well, we cannot answer that today but for sure it will be unique after being inspired by their creative boxes. Bugs will be sculpted out of special modeling clay. Fun, Fun, Fun!
Crazy for Art (ages 6-8) 9:30am-noon
Children will learn to draw with variety of unusual tools such as sticks. Let’s get messy, learn new techniques and most important, have fun. What more could a kid ask for? The class will conclude with an art show.
Painting Up a Storm (ages 9-12) 1:30pm-4pm
Depending on the weather, students will be painting landscapes, still-life, painting over, under, and around things. Class will be concluded with an art show.
