Many families, I’m sure, participate in very refined holiday rituals.  But one of my family’s favorite traditions is the reading of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.  Those Herdman kids make my children seem like perfectly behaved angels even on their worst of days.

I also found this online teachers guide with questions and activities related to the book.

Free Birthday Hotspots, Anyone?

November 12, 2008 | 9 Comments

Calling all NWA Parents, a Fayetteville mom is desperately seeking help!

Every year, my daughter’s birthday is the week of Thanksgiving - last year it fell ON Thanksgiving - and this makes it difficult to decide when to have the party, and the dreary November weather makes it hard to find a great (and super cheap) location.

We had the first three at home, but now that there are about 15 kids+their parents invited, we’d rather do it someplace with a little more open space. Last year I booked a gazebo at Wilson Park, and cancelled due to weather.  Being in Fayetteville and most of the invitees being here, we’d of course prefer Fayetteville, but Springdale-Rogers isn’t too far of a drive to ask if the party is good!

Any suggestions out there? I have precisely 10 TEN days to decide and get out invites!!!

Desperately Yours,

RhoRho

Family Photos by Allison Rupp of Photo Alli

November 4, 2008 | Leave a Comment

We did it!! We finally had a family photo shoot with Allison Rupp of photoalli.com!  I know you probably have photos taken every year, and are surrounded by beautiful memories of your family.  Not us.

I have always been intimidated by the idea.  How could I ever get all four of us dressed “fancy” — as my 6 year old would say – and to the location with smiles on on our faces?  (I didn’t.)

My six year old refused to wear anything but bright blue Under Armour and bright white tennis shoes with his brown corduroys.  Both boys had stains on their faces despite much scrubbing.  No one was speaking to anyone civilly by the time we got to the lawn of Old Main (15 minutes late).  But it didn’t matter.

The pictures Allison took reflect our family in all our fun and messiness.  She took plenty of traditional shots of us together and separately.  But, she also encouraged some fun shots in the trees and playing in the leaves.  It is exactly what I wanted.

I’ll update you when we get to see our proofs (the ones she showed me from her camera were great).  In the meantime, head over to Allison’s website, www.photoalli.com and view her amazing work.
