I found a really cool website called Pumpkin Patches and More that lists pick-your-own pumpkin patches and corn mazes throughout the US.
Here’s the Arkansas page. One patch is listed for Benton County, and two are listed for Washington County. Don’t go without calling first to be sure the patch is still open!

Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters at the Walton Arts Center
September 18, 2008 | Leave a Comment
The Walton Arts Center presents the Dallas Children’s Theater’s production of John Steptoe’s Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters, a Caldecott Award winning Cinderella tale told through narration, African dance, drumming and song.
The show will take place Sunday, September 28 at 2 p.m. Tickets for Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters range from $10-$16 and can be purchased by calling the Walton Arts Center Box Office at 479-443-5600 or by visiting www.waltonartscenter.org. This production is best for ages 5-10.
A favorite among children and adults, this African story from Zimbabwe tells the tale of Mufaro, a dignified and caring African villager, and his two beautiful daughters. When the King sends out invitations to find the most beautiful woman in the kingdom to be his Queen, Mufaro’s daughters are anxious to be chosen and he proudly agrees to escort them to the King. But then one daughter, believing herself better than her sister, sets out alone so that she can be presented to the king first. What will happen to each girl as she responds to hooting owls, enchanted trees and the other strange beings she encounters along the way?
Every culture has its rendition of the Cinderella story, but this story’s notion of “beauty” is more than skin deep.

Scholastic Study Jams Free Trial
September 4, 2008 | Leave a Comment
I received a sneak peak at Scholastic’s new Study Jams! website. This cool online learning site is geared towards grades 3-6 and explains math and science topics through animated video, karaoke songs, interactive tutorials, quizzes and more.
I found it to be a great way to sneak in fun “bites” of learning after school and in the evening. I especially like the focus on science, which so often gets little attention in elementary school.
For a limited time, you can try StudyJams! FREE for 14 days and then give StudyJams! to your kids for only $5.95 a month or $59 a year. (StudyJams! is normally $9.95 a month or $99 for the year). Use promo code SJCHALLENGE when ordering.
For more information about StudyJams! or to subscribe, visit www.scholastic.com/studyjams.
