We Finally Made it to Mama Dean’s Soul Food Kitchen

July 18, 2007 | 2 Comments

Note:  Mama Dean’s has relocated to the old Mr. Burger on South School Street in Fayetteville, farther South on School Street from its old location.

I took my boys to Mama Dean’s last night, and the food was a hit!  Everything is fresh and homemade — from the corn bread to the greens and the black eyed peas.

The ham and chicken tenders (all white meat) were both favorites.  My kids especially liked the fact that a homemade dessert came with every meal.  They both chose chocolate cake, of course.  I chose banana pudding, but was forced to share because my boys liked it so much.  They also got a kick out of seeing their mom drink tea from a Mason jar.

Do not expect any fancy atmosphere here.  But, if you like good southern cooking, try it.

We had tried to eat at Mama Deans several times before, but it had always been closed (even though the sign said they should be open).  However, the owners assured me that they are staying open their normal hours now.  And they do take credit cards.

Location:  1701 South School Street in Fayetteville.  Take College Ave. in Fayetteville South to Sixth Street.  Keep going through the Sixth Street light, and you will see Mamma Deans on your right.

Ozark Reptile Museum

July 16, 2007 | 1 Comment

All Side of Life reader, Jamie wrote to me with some details about the Ozark Reptile Museum.  We have never been, but I am sure my boys would love it.

I wanted to let you know about another museum in the area worth visiting.  It’s called Ozark Reptile Museum.  It’s VERY small, but a neat place to go if you’ve got kids into snakes, lizards etc.  (They even have an alligator.)

It’s located in a small L-shaped building next to Mermaids where 71 Business merges with Green Acres Road.

It’s open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday afternoon.  Admission is $1.50 for kids 5-12, $2.50 for 13 years and older and it’s free for kids 4 and under.

We didn’t do this, but we were told you could bring a camera and get your picture taken holding the 9 foot Boa!

Thanks for the tip, Jamie!

New Giveaway: One Month of Strollerfit Classes — FREE

July 15, 2007 | Leave a Comment

Strollerfit_logo_1_3 We Have a New Giveaway!

I loved the idea of the Strollerfit classes so, I contacted Joanie Johnson, owner of the local Strollerfit franchise to find out more about the program.

  • The 50 minute workout is for parents who have a stroller age baby (typically 6 weeks to 4 years).
  • Your baby stays in the stroller for the majority of your workout.  However, there is plenty of built in interaction with baby pleasers like bubble blowing, songs, nursery rhymes and games.
  • You need a sturdy stroller (no umbrella strollers), a strollerfit kit (free with enrollment) and a mat
  • Check out the class price list and FAQ

The classes are currently Monday/Wednesday/Friday mornings at 8:30a.m. at the Northwest Arkansas Mall (in the parking lot near the AMP, weather permitting.  inside by Guest Services, if not).  Tuesday/Thursday evening classes will begin July 24, 2007.  A Grand Opening will be held July 30th with refreshments and door prizes.

Joanie will also be hosting free events for members and nonmembers called StrollerFriends.  It sounds like a great way to meet other local moms.  Some events will be only moms, and some will be for the entire family.

On to the Giveaway . . .

I am hosting a drawing for one month of free Strollerfit classes and a $10 discount on the enrollment fee.  That is a $60 value!  Here’s how to enter:

  1. Forward this post about Strollerfit to at least one friend
  2. Copy me on the email (allsidesoflife@gmail.com)

I will enter your name in a drawing for one month of free Strollerfit classes and a $10 discount on the $40 enrollment fee.  Your name will be entered once for each friend.  So, if you forward this post to 10 friends, your name will be entered in the drawing 10 times.

Entries must be received by noon on Friday, July 20, 2007.  The drawing will be held later that day.  Forwards to invalid email addresses (as well as other scamming tactics) will disqualify you from the drawing.

Did you receive this post from a friend?  Be sure to check out my other posts on kid friendly NWA.  Thanks for reading All Sides of Life!

If you do not have a stroller age child, forward this post to a friend who does, so she can enter the drawing!

All Sides of Life reader Michele just turned me on to the local company, Life Made Simple — the “complete source for all your domestic care needs.”

First, look at Life Made Simple’s creative Mommy and Me classes — Spanish and Sign Language — held in Fayetteville, Tontitown, and Rogers.

Now look at Life Made Simple’s impressive list of services:

The NWACC Kids College begins on Monday, July 16, 2007 for 3rd through 5th graders and on Monday, July 23, 2007 for 6th through 9th graders.
