Question:  How can I make Life+Kids more useful to you?  Here’s an opportunity for you to give me input about this site:

  • Subjects/Categories - are there any subjects you would like to see covered in All Sides of Life? What are the things that you would most like to know about kid friendly NWA, but have difficulty finding?
  • Types of Posts - reader questions, giveaways, upcoming events, what to do this week…. what do you like most, what do you like least?
  • Posting Frequency - are there too many posts?  too few?
  • Design - is it easy to find what you are looking for on the site?
  • What Frustrates You about Life+Kids? What is Best about it?
  • Other Ideas and Feedback

Beaver Lakeside Cabins

July 25, 2007 | 1 Comment

Here’s another great recommendation from All Sides of Life Reader KC:Outside

My sister and her husband have been living in Eureka Springs for almost 15 years now. My sister, Holly, owned a business right downtown for most of this time. One complaint she often heard from folks visiting Eureka was the difficultly in finding cabins on the lake to rent that would be big enough for 2 families to enjoy a vacation together.  So, they created Beaver Lakeside Cabins. Both cabins sleep 12; there are 2 private bedrooms plus large sleeping lofts.

I can attest that the cabins have all the amenities you’d need for a trip to the lake—private boat docks, canoes, washer and dryer, beach towels, grills/grilling tools, board games, and one even has a water trampoline!  I’ve stayed in both cabins and always really enjoyed myself—most recently, with 3 other couples as a law school graduation celebration.  We had an excellent time; and my sister even arranged for a great masseuse to bring her table out and we all had massages!

FREE drama workshop with Kennedy Center Presenter, Sean Layne

July 24, 2007 | Leave a Comment

Here’s a note from Kassie, the Artistic Director of TheatreSquared, who is recruiting 10 – 25 students entering the 3rd through 6th grades, to participate in a FREE performing arts workshop with Kennedy Center Presenter, Sean Layne.

Walton Arts Center is bringing Sean to Fayetteville to teach in the AWE Summer teacher training program. Sean is a nationally known drama teaching artist who will be in the area showing teachers how to expand and explode their Arkansas History curriculum with drama.  During his week at AWE, Sean will spend the mornings with the teachers and then in the afternoon, he will teach the same curriculum to the 3rd-6th graders while the 35 AWE teachers observe.  This is a great opportunity for kids who have taken acting before or for those who are interested in trying something new and fun. The workshop is an hour a day for three days.

Kassie got to know Sean two years ago when she taught with him at AWE and she’s thrilled that the Walton Arts Center is bringing him back. Consider joining the workshop and helping area teachers expand their teaching skills.

  • What:  FREE drama workshop with nationally known drama teacher, Sean Layne

  • When:  July 30, 31 and Aug. 1 from 1:45-3:00pm

  • Where: McBride Studio, Walton Arts Center (Main Building on corner of Dickson and West)

  • To Reserve a space(s):  email kassie@theatresquared.org

Bike City Recyclery and Infoshop

July 24, 2007 | Leave a Comment

We have recently learned that bicycle maintenance can be expensive.  So, I was glad to hear about Bike City Recyclery and Infoshop:  “an all volunteer non-profit bicycle recyclery and full service shop committed to cycling as a healthy means of clean and sustainable transportation. In addition, Bike City is a radical bookstore, library & meeting space.”

All Sides of Life reader KC just had them fix up her super vintage Schwinn Collegiate Cruiser.  Here’s what she had to say:

I really neglected the bike over the past 15 years and it looked like it.  They got it sparkling, and best of all, working!  They’re totally reasonably priced and it’s a neat place because it’s volunteer-run. You can even rent a bike stand and tools to work on your own bikes, if you have the knowledge.

  • What:  Bike City Recyclery and Infoshop
  • Where:  546 W. Center Street, Studio C, Behind Razors Salon (at the intersection of the Bike Trail and Center Street)
  • Hours:  Monday through Saturday Noon-6pm

Looking for a place to swim?

Alannah sent me this cool link to a website with information on Arkansas swimming holes.  The site includes details on several places near West Fork and Eureka Springs you would likely never find without directions.  Look for the Walden’s Pond icon attached to family-friendly places.

Becca Martin at Down Dickson includes hours, rates, and contact information for several local public pools in her post about What to Do on Monday, July 22.
