So many of you forwarded information on the Jungalbook performance to your friends, that I decided to add an additional prize to the drawing: admission to the Jungalbook Family Camp. My family participated in the Family Camp for TheatreSquared’s Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse production last year and it was a hoot! My boys loved the fact that the whole family took part in the fun. June 25, 2007 | Leave a Comment
By now you all know about TheatreSquared’s Jungalbook production that opens this Saturday, June 30 and runs through Saturday, July 7 in the Walton Arts Center’s Nadine Baum Studios.
How would you like to win 4 free tickets to the show? Here’s how:
- Forward this post about the Jungalbook show to at least one friend
- Copy me on the email (allsidesoflife@gmail.com)
I will enter your name in a drawing for 4 free tickets to the Jungalbook that can be used at any show with available seats. Your name will be entered once for each friend. So, if you forward the post to 10 friends, your name will be entered in the drawing 10 times. If you have already purchased tickets to the show, you will receive vouchers for 4 tickets to a future TheatreSquared production of your choice.
Entries must be received by 6:00a.m. CST on Friday, June 29, 2007. The drawing will be held later that day. Forwards to invalid email addresses (as well as other scamming tactics) will disqualify you from the drawing.
I hope this will be an easy and fun way to spread the word about the Jungalbook!

Family Event for Opening Night of the Jungal Book
June 16, 2007 | 1 Comment
I am on the board of TheatreSquared, Northwest Arkansas’ local professional theater company. I wanted to let you know about a great family event we are planning for opening night of TheatreSquared’s upcoming production of the Jungal Book.
If you are not familiar with this adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s the Jungle Books, here is a synopsis:
The jungle is a dangerous place, especially for man. But for Mowgli the mancub, the jungle is a playground…literally. In this modern re-telling of a classic tale, Mowgli has been raised by a pack of wolves & learns the laws of the jungle from the wise bear, Baloo. Through his coming of age, the audience is taken on a heartwarming & thought-provoking journey that explores environmental issues as well as themes of tolerance, adversity & ultimately, belonging. This is a perfect play for TheatreSquared’s youngest audiences!
The family event starts at 4:30 pm on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at the Nadine Baum Studios. The jungle themed festivities will include a picnic dinner and activity stations such as art, stage combat, henna tattoos, and warrior face painting. Drummers and giant puppets will lead a procession into the theater where guests will enjoy the opening night performance of the Jungal Book. After the show, guests will be able meet the actors and learn more about the production.
The night will also include a raffle of jungle related items such as Baloo reading to your child’s classroom next fall, and a night in the tree house or bungalow at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge.
ADVANCE TICKETS REQUIRED: Tickets to the opening night festivities are $25 per person The tickets include dinner and tickets to the show (lap babies free). If any of you are interested in attending this event, please email me at allsidesoflife@gmail.com or contact TheatreSquared directly at 445-6333 or morgan@theatresquared.org. The theater only seats 150, so reserve soon!
I know many families are traveling this time of year. If you cannot join us (or even if you can), please forward this to other families who might be interested in attending the event.
The Jungal Book family event would not be possible without the generous support of TheatreSquared’s family season sponsors:
- Mike and Allyson Malone
- Lisa and Paul Morstad
- Robert Hix and Paige Partridge
- Patrick and Ali Pilkington
- Jan and Stacey Sturner
- Rob and Elizabeth Rivenburgh
- Kathy Reyes
- Brent and Amy Robinson
- Mark and Courtney Henry
- Ben and Jana Carter
- Todd and Missy Lewis
- Bob Kohler and Laura Goodwin
- Gary and Sharon Guthrie
- Marlon and Ati Blackwell
If any of you are interested in becoming family season sponsors, let me know. I would love to tell you more about this great opportunity.
Little Bread Company Opens in the old Arsagas Block Street Bakery Building
June 15, 2007 | 1 Comment
The Little Bread Company (of Eureka Springs) has opened where Arsagas used to be on Block Street. From the menu:
Our soups are made completely from scratch. Our breads and pastries are mixed and hand-shaped right here where you purchase them. Our coffee is locally roasted fresh for you. We use locally grown produce from farmers in our community. All our flours and a majority of our ingredients are organic. We use no artificial ingredients or processed foods of any kind.
Fortunately, the bakery retains the same laid back atmosphere as its predecessor, and you can still drink your coffee and eat on the deck while your kids explore all the nooks and crannies of the adjacent garden. The interior has been remodeled to include additional seating and a larger display case. The menu includes sandwiches, salads, breakfast sandwiches, breads, desserts, pastries, coffee and espresso.
The bakery is open from 7am-9pm Monday through Saturday and from 7am-3pm on Sundays.
Location: 116 North Block Street, Fayetteville (Map)

Baby’s First Art Gallery
June 13, 2007 | 1 Comment
Kid friendly may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of an art gallery. However, Dede Peters, the owner of DDP Gallery in Fayetteville assures me that her gallery is family friendly (and I believe her!).
So, when you are up on the Fayetteville Square, stop by and expose your kids to high caliber contemporary art. While you are there, be sure your kids say “hi” to DDP’s art dog, Heidi.
