Wild Animals in Northwest Arkansas: Wild Wilderness Drive Through Safari and Turpentine Creek
March 8, 2007 | 2 Comments
Kids love the Wild Wilderness Drive Through Safari in Gentry. Where else can they see these animals just outside the car window? Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the 3 mile drive through safari and petting zoo.
Northwest Arkansas is also home to the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge and Foundation, a USDA licensed shelter for abandoned, abused and neglected ‘Big Cats’ with an emphasis on Tigers, Lions, Leopards and Cougars. For a truly unique experience, spend the night in a Tree House in the middle of the refuge.

War Eagle Cavern on Beaver Lake
March 6, 2007 | 2 Comments
With Spring weather on the way, everyone will be soon be looking to get outside. Why not try exploring one of the several natural caves in the area?
War Eagle Cavern opens for the season on March 10, 2007 and has both above ground and underground activities. You can take an easy one mile tour of the nature trails or a more challenging a spelunking tour. The fortune hunters in your family can even pan for treasure at the War Eagle mining company. Here’s an article on the cavern, which is located off Hwy 12 between Rogers and Eureka Springs (map).

Make Sure Your Kids Don’t Miss the Total Lunar Eclipse This Saturday, March 3, 2007
March 2, 2007 | Leave a Comment
I bet your kids would enjoy seeing the total lunar eclipse that will occur at moonrise (6:45pm if you are in Northwest Arkansas) tomorrow (Saturday, March 3, 2007). In a lunar eclipse, the earth blocks most of the sunlight to the moon so that the moon appears a dark red-orange. Find a place with a good view of the eastern horizon at sunset and enjoy the show.
Gadling has a viewing guide here. If you want to photograph the eclipse, MrEclipse has tips here.
Chuck’s Cake Shoppe in Fayetteville
March 2, 2007 | 5 Comments
Choosing the birthday cake is one of my favorite parts of planning birthday parties. I know that many people would never consider anything less than homemade. I, on the other hand, am a sucker for the bakery-made cakes.
There is an ongoing debate in Fayetteville over who makes the best cakes — Chuck’s Cake Shoppe or Rick’s Bakery. Both bakeries have been around for years, and are located on College Avenue. They both make great cakes, and I would not hesitate to recommend either one.
Any other great birthday cake bakers in Northwest Arkansas? Recommend them in the comments.
