The Arkansas Discovery Network (sponsor of the Grossology exhibit at the Nadine Baum Learning Center) has created a museum on wheels.  The mobile museum will contain the “Race for Planet X”, an interactive learning experience designed to engage kids and adults in engineering skills.  Check out the website for details.

The museum will “roll” to schools, community centers, and libraries in the fall of 2007, but there will be a sneak preview on the University of Arkansas campus from February 5 through February 22, 2007.  Via the UofA Headlines — Link.

Did You Miss Any (or all) of the Oscar Nominated Films?

January 24, 2007 | Leave a Comment

If you are like me, the only movies you have seen this year are animated, or include a cast of superheroes.  If so, then (like me) you have seen none of the Best Picture nominees.  Not to worry.  Down Dickson has the details of where the Oscar nominated films are showing in Northwest Arkansas.  Link.  The site also has a list of the Oscar nominated films that will be coming soon to our area.   Link

Panera Bread

January 23, 2007 | 3 Comments

I know that Panera Bread is a good option for eating out with kids (and a great place for some alone time with a free wireless hot spot).  But, until reading this post at Quick Serve Kids, I did not realize that Panera food is trans-fat-free and that the restaurant provides a kids’ menu with organic and natural ingredients.  I wish more restaurants would do the same.  Does anyone know of other restaurants in Northwest Arkansas with healthy options on their kids’ menus?

Panera has locations in Fayetteville and Bentonville.

Choosing Age Appropriate Video Games

January 19, 2007 | Leave a Comment

My kids love video games.  Unfortunately, I have a hard time deciding which games will be challenging, rather than frustrating.  The rating system tells me whether the game will contain inappropriate content, but not whether it will be too difficult to enjoy.  Enter Gamer Dad, the website with everything you need to know about choosing a video game.  The site contains detailed reviews of games for all video game systems.  Check it out.  Thanks, Blogging Baby!

Make the Most of Living in a University Town

Many would say that a Razorback football game is the ultimate event for a young Razorback fan.  But, sometimes the large crowds can be overwhelming for children — not to mention to the parents trying to keep track of them.  Also, unless you have excellent seats, the game may not keep the attention of the youngest of fans.

Not to worry — the UofA Athletic Department provides many opportunities to expose your child to college sports:  basketball, baseball, track, cross country, golf, tennis, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming, diving, and volleyball.  These sports attract fewer spectators, so your kids can get closer to the action.  Go Hogs!
